Shiites

One of the two main currents of Islam today (the other is the Sunnis). Shiites make up a minority of about 20 percent of Islamists. They were formed among those who accepted as Muhammad's successor only one member of his family, following the principle Ali, his son-in-law. Supporters of this segment regard the Koran as the only source of teaching.
