Cassation

It is the act of suspending a person's political rights for a period or for a lifetime. This means that the disenfranchised person cannot run for public office or be elected by vote. During the military regime in Brazil (1964 - 1985), the government revoked the political rights of hundreds of opponents. In a democracy, the forfeiture of political rights is one of the appropriate punishments for crimes committed by people in public office - president, governor, mayor, deputy, senator, etc. In this case, the accused has a wide right of defense.
